From Balinese ᬩᬭᭀᬂ (“barong”) and Javanese ꦧꦫꦺꦴꦁ (barong), from Old Javanese barong (literally “bear”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *baʀuaŋ (“bear”). Doublet of beruang.
