Borrowed from Polish moc, from Proto-Slavic *moťь. Cognate with Ukrainian міць (micʹ), another borrowing from Polish, Ukrainian міч (mič) and Russian мочь (močʹ), both inherited from Old East Slavic мочь (močĭ), and Russian мощь (moščʹ), a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic.
