Etymology
Not clear. Per BER, most plausibly via semantic shift from Proto-Slavic *kǫblo (“lair, nest”) + -я (-ja). Akin to Old Polish kęblać (“to nourish, to feed”), kęblić (“to rise, to tend”), dial. Russian ку́блиться (kúblitʹsja, “to nest”).
