Etymology
From an earlier ишти́х (ištíh)/ишта́х (ištáh), borrowed from Ottoman Turkish يشتاه, from Arabic اِشْتِهاء (ištihāʾ, “craving”). Probably remodelled under the influence of the native outdated Bulgarian ища́й (ištáj, “claim”). Cognate with Turkish iştah (“appetite”), Serbo-Croatian ишта̄х.
