Compare toKazakh ертең (erteñ, “tomorrow”), Kyrgyz эртең (erteñ, “tomorrow”), Southern Altai эртен (erten, “tomorrow”), Kumyk эртен (erten, “morning”), Khakas иртен (irten, “morning”), Tuvan эртен (erten, “morning”).
There are two plausible archetypes[1]: *erte-n, a historical intrumental case form of Common Turkic *ertä (“morning”), or a composition of Proto-Turkic *ẹ̄r (“early; morning”) + *taŋ (“dawn”).
