Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *erke, if this isn't a re-borrowing of *erk from Mongolic. See ирек (irek), Mongolian эрх (erh).
The root is not attested in pre-13th century Turkic, but its wide geographical distribution and wider semantical range make native origin more likely.
Cognate with Kazakh ерке (erke, “naughty, spoiled (child)”), Uzbek erka (“spoiled (child)”).
