инеү
Bashkir
Etymology
The only reliable cognate is Kazakh ену (enw, “to enter, go in”). Thus, this is a very peculiar regional feature shared by only these two languages.
Generally thought to derive from Proto-Turkic *ēn- (“to go down”)[1],[2].However, no adequate explanation has been presented as to how this peculiar semantic transformation ("go down" > "enter") could have taken place, and why only in these two languages but not elsewhere.
