摸底 [mō dǐ]

1. ■ （了解底细） know the real situation; try to find out the real intention or situation; sound sb. out:

这事你摸底吗? Do you know much about the matter?

恐怕你也不摸底。 I'm afraid you haven't a very clear idea either.

他对这事是什么态度? 你摸底了吗? What's his attitude toward this business? Have you felt him out?

他是想摸我们的底。 He was trying to feel [sound] us out.
