揽

揽（攬） [lǎn] 动

1. ■ （用胳膊围住） pull sb. into one's arms; take into one's arms:

她把孩子紧紧揽在怀里。 She clasped her child to her bosom.

2. ■ （用绳子等聚拢松散物） fasten with a rope, etc.:

把柴火揽起来 put a rope around the firewood

3. ■ （拉到自己这方面或自己身上来） take on; take upon oneself; canvass:

兜揽 solicit business;

承揽 contract for;

揽买卖 canvass business orders;

推功揽过 decline a reward for merit but take the responsibility on oneself

4. ■ （把持） take hold of; grasp; monopolize:

独揽大权 arrogate all powers to oneself;
