揭 [jiē] 动

1. ■ （把粘在别的物体上的片状物取下） tear off; take off:

把墙上那幅画揭下来。 Take that picture off the wall.

他把布告揭了下来。 He tore down the notice.

2. ■ （把盖在上面的或遮挡的东西拿起） uncover; lift (the lid, etc.):

揭盖子 take the lid off sth.; bring sth. into the open; clarify a situation;

揭开锅盖 lift up the pot cover;

仪式开始时， 他们揭去了塑像的罩子。 They uncovered the statue at the beginning of the ceremony.

这个盒子的盖揭不起来。 The top of this box won't lift (off).
