Etymology
Diminutive form of Proto-Slavic *bъdьňa, formed via the diminutive suffix -е (-e) (nt-stem). Probably of substrate origin, akin to Latin butina (“bottle”), Ancient Greek πῡτῑ́νη (pūtī́nē, “flask”), possibly Proto-Germanic *puttaz (“pot”).
