Etymology

The word has been compared with Latin fricō (I rub, chafe), Lithuanian brūkis (stroke, line) and braūkti (to strike, rub), but this is formally hardly possible. Possibly from Pre-Greek. The connection with φορκόν (phorkón, grey; wrinkled) is quite uncertain.
