τρυφάλεια
Ancient Greek
Etymology
A derivative of φάλος (phálos, “crest of a helmet”). Hesychius says τρυ- (tru-) is for τρι- (tri-, “three”); Liddell & Scott deny this but do not say what it does represent. Cunliffe says it represents τετρα- (tetra-, “four”).
