From dative case τοῖς τείχεσῐν (teíkhesin) of τεῖχος (teîkhos, “wall -of a city-”) + πλήτης (“one who approaches”) from verb πελάζω (pelázō, “approach”) (also from πίμπλημι (pímplēmi, “fill”) (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
