Etymology

Borrowed from Proto-Scythian *Skuδa, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewd- (“to propel, shoot”).[1] Cognate with English shoot, Old Persian 𐎿𐎤𐎢𐎭𐎼 (Skudra).
