σαρωνίς
Ancient Greek
Etymology
According to Strömberg, from σαρῶνες (sarônes, “net of hunters”), which remains uncovincing in spite of the parallels adduced. The word has been connected with σορωνίς (sorōnís, “old silver fir”); since the variation α/ο cannot be explained, it must be assumed a Pre-Greek origin.
