Etymology

Literally "cunning," from μήδεα (mḗdea, “cunning, counsels, device, planning”) +‎ -ιᾰ (-ia, feminine suffix), from μέδω (médō, “to rule over, protect”), from Proto-Indo-European *med- (“to measure, give advice, heal”).[1]
