λυκάβας
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- λυκάμας (lukámas)
Etymology
Often derived from an unattested *λύκη (*lúkē, “light”) + βαίνω (baínō, “to go, to step”), as “path of light”, but Beekes finds this unconvincing. He rather suggests a Pre-Greek origin, in view of the alternative form with "μ" and the suffix "-αντ-".
