κῖκυς
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Meier-Brügger assumes a reduplicated form of Proto-Indo-European *ḱewh₁- (“to swell, be strong”), like in κύω (kúō, “to conceive”). This is accepted by de Lamberterie, but the long ῑ cannot be explained this way. Beekes suggests a Pre-Greek instead.
