κᾶλον
Ancient Greek
Etymology
The word has been connected with καίω (kaíō, “to burn”) as "firewood", by comparison with the synonymous δᾱλός (dālós, “firebrand”). However, according to Beekes, a Pre-Greek is much more likely.
