Etymology

Inherited from Mediaeval Byzantine Greek κοιμοῦμαι (koimoûmai) & κοιμᾶμαι (koimâmai), from Ancient Greek κοιμῶμαι (koimômai, “to lie down to sleep”), contracted form of κοιμάομαι (koimáomai), mediopassive of κοιμάω (koimáō).
