Etymology
A derivation in -άς (-ás), probably from an o-stem *κέμος (*kémos, “hornless”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱem- (“hornless”). Confront Proto-Germanic *hindiz (“hind, doe”) and Lithuanian šmùlas (“without horn”).
