单词 καθίκι
释义

καθίκι

Greek

Alternative forms

  • καθοίκι (kathoíki)

Etymology

From Byzantine Greek καθοίκι (kathoíki), from καθ' (kath', at, by) + οἶκος (oἶkos, house), due to the fact that it refers to household chamber pots. The spelling καθ- is due to the fact that it was falsely believed to derive from καθίζω (kathízo, to sit). Due to its actual etymology, the Babiniotis Dictionary uses the above alternative form even though in reality it is the less common one encountered.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /kaˈθici/
  • Hyphenation: κα‧θί‧κι

Noun

καθίκι (kathíki) n (plural καθίκια)

  1. (colloquial, dated, literally) chamber pot, potty (a container used for urination and defecation)
  2. (colloquial, offensive, figuratively) bastard, son of a bitch, asshole, prick (extremely unpleasant or objectionable person)
