θυμάλωψ
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Formation like αἱμάλωψ (haimálōps, “mass of blood, clot”) and νυκτάλωψ (nuktálōps, “night-blindness”). Since the present word has nothing to do with "seeing", we are probably dealing with a Pre-Greek suffix -λωψ. Confront also ἀγχίλωψ (ankhílōps) and αἰγίλωψ (aigílōps).
