Probably from Proto-Hellenic *tʰorwos or *tʰorsos, from the root of θρῴσκω (thrṓiskō, “to leap, spring”) (aorist ἔθορον (éthoron)), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰerh₃- (“to leap, spring”).
