Etymology 1
From Proto-Hellenic *tʰḗhyos, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰéh₁s-yo-, from *dʰéh₁s. Equivalent to θεός (theós, “god”) + -ιος (-ios, adjectival suffix). Cognate with Latin fēriae.
