Etymology
According to Beekes, it's definitely from Pre-Greek, but confer Sanskrit गर्गर (gárgara, “whirlpool, eddy, churn; water-jar”). Compare also κορκόδρυα (korkódrua, “drain”) and κορχυρέα (korkhuréa, “subterranean drain”).
