γρῖπος
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Like γρῖφος (grîphos, “creel; riddle, enigma”), from Pre-Greek, given the variation π/φ. Comparison with Middle High German krēbe (“basket”) and Old Norse kerfi (“bundle”) must therefore be rejected.
