βαλλάντιον
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- βαλάντιον (balántion)
Etymology
Unknown. Krahe thought it was a word from the northern Balkans, related to Latin follis (“bellows; purse, sack”). However, it is perhaps Pre-Greek because of the variation -λλ-/-λ-.
