βαίτη
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- βαίτᾱ (baítā) – Doric
Etymology
Unknown origin. Proto-Germanic *paidō is borrowed from this word. With a suffix -k-, it is possible to connect Albanian petk (“coat”), suggesting a derivation from a common European substrate. Furnée argues for a Pre-Greek origin.
