From earlier Αἴϝᾱς (Aíwās) of uncertain further origin, compare Etruscan 𐌀𐌉𐌅𐌀𐌔 (aivas). Compare also Proto-Hellenic *aiweí from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ey- (vital energy, life)
