Etymology
From Ancient Greek ᾰ̓νᾰφῠ́ομαι (“I am grown again”) of active ᾰ̓νᾰφῠ́ω. The figurative sense, a semantic loan from French surgir.[1] Morphologically, from ανα- (“again”) + φύομαι (fýomai, “grow”).
