Baarn
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as barne in 1308. The toponym is cognate to Middle Dutch bernen (“burn”) and berne (“fuel”).
Popular etymology holds that the city is named after Verona, but this origin story of the name is not backed up by the oldest attestations of the toponym.
