From Proto-Semitic *ʔanθ-at-. Cognate with Ugaritic 𐎀𐎘𐎚 (ảṯt /ʔaṯṯatu/), Aramaic אִנְתְּתָא (ʾintəṯā), אִיתְּתָא (ʾittəṯā), Biblical Hebrew אִשָּׁה (ʔiššɔ́) and Arabic أُنْثَى (ʾunṯā).
