Etymology
From Middle Irish -amail (compare Manx -oil, Scottish Gaelic -ail, -eil), from Old Irish -amail.
Suffix
-úil
- Used to form many adjective forms from nouns in Irish, the adjectives having the sense of "like or characteristic of what is denoted by the noun". Similar to English -ly.
- fear (“man”) + -úil → fearúil (“manly”)
- cairde (“friends”) + -úil → cairdiúil (“friendly”)

- All adjectives in -úil are second declension.
