- (nominal suffix) Added to a word to form a noun or less frequently an adjective.
- köt (“to tie”) → kötény (“apron”)
- szer (“adequate mode”) → szerény (“modest”)
Usage notes
- (nominal suffix) No longer productive. Harmonic variants:
- -ány is added to back vowel words
- -ény is added to front vowel words
