Variant of earlier açubre and açumbre, from Old Spanish, from Andalusian Arabic الثُّمُن‎ (aṯṯúmn), from Arabic ثُمُن‎ (ṯumun) and ثُمْن‎ (ṯumn, “one-eighth”).[1] Doublet of celamín. Cognate with Spanish azumbre.
