Etymology 1
From Ottoman Turkish چاپاق (çapak)[1], ultimately from Proto-Turkic *čalp-. Cognate with Uyghur [script needed] (çapak, “fump, (eye) gum”), Karakhanid [script needed] (çalpak, “dirt”)[2]. Also related to Karakhanid [script needed] (çalpaŋ, “mud”).
