Etymology
First attested as suindrecht in 1280-1287. Likely a compound of Old Dutch swin (“gully, creek”) and dreht (“ferry, watercourse”). The first element was gradually reinterpreted to zwijn (“boar”). Compare Barendrecht and Ossendrecht.
