Borrowed from Gulf Arabic عَيَم (ʿayam, “Kuwaiti citizens of Iranian descent”), plural of عيمي (ʿīmi), from Classical Arabic عَجَم (non-Arabs, especially Persians). Doublet of Ajam and aljamiado.
