yengə (definite accusative yengəni, plural yengələr)

  1. In the traditional Azerbaijani society, a woman who guides the bride, preparing her for the wedding night, and whose functions include following the bride to the bridegroom's house and assuring her virginity by collecting the sheets covered by blood stains, bringing them to the bride's parents afterwards; sometimes also functioning as a matchmaker.
