Etymology

Obscure; perhaps from *enxamardo, from enxame (“swarm”) +‎ -ardo, or a derivation of xebrar (“to separate”). Alternatively from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia. Compare Spanish jabardo (“swarm”) and the dialectal Portuguese javardo (“boar”), which is probably unrelated.[1]
