From Malay windu, from Javanese ꦮꦶꦤ꧀ꦢꦸ (windu, “a period of eight (Javanese) years”), from Old Javanese windu (“drop; moon; zero; ten, a period of ten years”), from Sanskrit विन्दु (vindu), a variant of बिन्दु (bindu, “drop, point”).
