Etymology

Compound of vuxen (“adult; grown-up”) +‎ poäng (“point”). Recorded in the Swedish National Library Newspaper Archive since 1996.

Cognate with Danish voksenpoint and Norwegian voksenpoeng.

(humorous) A grown-up point; an imaginary point given (to younger persons) for individual behaviour that characterize life as an adult.

  Going from ketchup to pesto was seen by the bachelors as extreme grown-up points.

Usage notes

Grown-up point are only "handed out" during the transition from young or youth to adult, with no specified age limit. Although, behaviour that characterize middle-aged or older behaviour does not reward grown-up points.
