宁愿 [nìng yuàn]

1. ■ would rather; better; as soon; would rather ... than ...; don't want anything else, only ...; should like to; prefer to; better ... than ...; would do sth. before; would sooner ... than do sth.:

我宁愿待在家里。 I would rather stay at home.

我宁愿在家看电视。 I would just as soon stay home and watch television.

我宁愿自己做这件事。 I prefer to do it myself.

游击队员宁愿战斗到死， 也不愿投降。 The guerrillas would fight to death before they surrendered.
