A calque of the Welsh berfenw: berf → verb + enw → noun.

Usage notes
- In dictionaries (such as Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru) that lemmatise the first-person singular present active indicative forms of verbs, the verbnoun is given as the second principal part.
