  1. (obsolete) A personal servant; a man who is a member of the household staff.
    • 1822, William Bennett, Malpas: - Volume 1, page 67:
      My men at arms are ready for mounting, and I will give orders to my vadelect " to have my own arms ready for a present adventure.”
    • 1832, Edward Coke, ‎Francis Hargrave, The First Part of the Institutes of the Laws of England; Or, a Commentary Upon Littleton:
      But if the sherife be a vadelect of the crowne, or other meniall servant of the king, there the challenge is good (5).
    • 1851, The Parliamentary Gazetteer of England and Wales:
      In Edward IV.'s days, while he was contending with King Henry VI. for the crown, they got possession of Guernsey, but were beat off by the valour of Richard Harleston, vadelect of the crown, as he was then called, for which the king rewarded him with the government, both of the island and castle.
