Ultimately from the past participle of the Proto-Iranian *taš- (“to make, construct; to cut”, verb), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tā́ćšti, from Proto-Indo-European *tḗtḱ-ti ~ *tétḱ-n̥ti, from *tetḱ- (“to create”).
