塌 [tā] 动

1. ■ (倒塌) collapse; fall down; cave in:

河水泛滥， 冲塌了堤岸。 The river floods caved in the bank.

墙塌了。 The wall collapsed [fell in].

屋顶被雪压塌了。 The roof collapsed under the weight of the snow.

没有什么好怕的， 天不会塌下来。 There's nothing to be afraid of. The sky won't fall down.

2. ■ (凹下) sink; droop:

花儿晒塌秧了。 The flowers drooped in the hot sun.

他脸色苍白， 双颊塌了下去。 He looked very pale; his cheeks had sunk in.

3. ■ (安定; 镇定) calm down; settle down to:

塌下心来学习 settle down to one's study
