Etymology
Sometimes connected to Sanskrit वृद्ध (vṛddha, “large, big”) and Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬛𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (varədaiti, “make larger”), an Indo-Iranian development. Also sometimes thought to be from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wérus, whence Sanskrit उरु (uru), Ancient Greek εὐρῠ́ς (eurús).
